What is Postmark?

Postmark is a transactional email platform for software teams.

According to the vendor, Postmark focuses not only on delivery, but incredibly fast delivery. Buy focusing on transactional email and not allowing sending of bulk promotional email, Postmark maintains a pristine reputation for delivery with ISPs.

The vendor doesn't ask customers to pay extra for "improved delivery" by upgrading to a dedicated IP. They stand by their pool of shared IPs just as strongly as their dedicated IP addresses because they manually approve every account and don't allow any bulk promotional email on our IPs.

Postmark has become a popular choice for users seeking a reliable SMTP service for transactional emails across multiple websites. Customers have praised the product for its near-perfect performance and unparalleled reliability compared to other SaaS products in the market. One standout feature that users appreciate is the weekly email summaries provided by Postmark. These summaries offer an overview of the total number of emails sent and any bounce issues, enabling users to quickly identify and address any delivery issues.

The ease of setup and excellent support provided by Postmark are additional factors that contribute to its positive user experience. Users find it simple to integrate Postmark into their workflow, and the visibility it provides into email activities is highly regarded. The acquisition of Postmark by ActiveCampaign has not resulted in any noticeable changes; users continue to enjoy the same dependable service they have come to rely on.

Postmark's unique features make it an invaluable tool for managing transactional email messages for clients. Developers particularly appreciate how it streamlines their workflow during the development process. Its outbound and inbound services prove highly beneficial in addressing communication problems related to client access to websites. Moreover, Postmark serves versatile purposes such as sending new user sign-up emails, order confirmations, password resets, and in-game notifications.

The range of use cases for Postmark extends beyond just transactional emails. Users rely on it for various purposes, including sending e-commerce sales receipts, handling support requests and messaging, as well as inbound messaging and routing for improved customer communication. Notably, Postmark excels in ensuring email delivery directly to user inboxes, which is crucial for services requiring email verification. With its ability to locate and verify emails, this product provides users with proof of successful communication with clients.

Postmark goes beyond just being a reliable SMTP service; it serves as the primary production email service for many users' businesses. This means tracking the transmission and receipt of emails sent to customers—a critical aspect of any successful business operation. Users have reported increased deliverability and efficient API calls between their platforms and Postmark, improving their overall communication processes. In addition, the product acts as the foundation for software products, being utilized by both product teams and support teams for sending messages seamlessly.

Overall, Postmark's excellent performance, reliable delivery, and user-friendly features make it a top choice for managing transactional emails and ensuring effective communication with clients.

We've used Postmark for many of the email delivery services of our app. Due to the nature of what Postmark accomplishes, it's primarily used in the development process and deployment of app features that require an email to be sent and tracked. So I guess you could say it's used by our Research and Development team in its execution.
  • Reliability is a must, and we see this with Postmark.
  • Implementation was easy enough.
  • Not many cons since it's pretty straightforward, and if email delivery service was often impacted, we'd most likely find a new provider.
Postmark is suited for those who need a simple and diverse solution for fast email delivery. This could be anything from the actual basic need to execute email, to the robust tracking capabilities of emails opened, click tracking and link tracking. This is super important when your customer is making demands on your support team and not receiving password reset emails. You don't want to be in that situation.
  • Password reset emails are almost always delivered.
  • Many of our services are reliant on email delivery, and we have had consistent results with Postmark.
They are a bit different and, in many cases, it makes sense to use both Postmark and Mandrill. Aside from these two, I don't have experience with other email delivery services. Both tend to be extremely reliable and rarely fail to send and deliver emails. Both are well-established companies with excellent customer support teams.
Fortunately, the support is not often needed, but when it is, they are available and ready to dive into your needs and often your customer's needs. It's a bad day when you have to call your email delivery service provider, it means that your own customers most likely are calling your support team, and you're calling to see what the issue is. Postmark makes this process simple, and they own their mistakes. Always nice to see that.

Postmark is the email platform our software uses to send and receive emails. It is used by our product team and support team predominantly. However, Postmark is the email foundation of the software we sell, so technically our whole company is using it when sending messages from our software.
  • Email tracking: we often get questions from customers about if a certain message was delivered and we are able to quickly search by email address to pull the message in question up and view the status.
  • Proactive System Status Updates: if Postmark ever experiences an issue a banner is posted across the top of their webpage with the current status. You can click into the banner to be redirected to their status page to gain more insight.
  • Filtering: we can filter messages by tags which makes it helpful when looking to view a certain type of message (i.e 'DailyDigest').
  • We have run into some glitches in their system that have causes messages to not get delivered or for delivery to be delayed. I'm not sure what causes this on Postmark's end but it makes for some very angry customers on our end.
If you are looking for an email platform to send and receive messages through, Postmark is a great solution. You are able to pull reports based on tracking and spam alerts to gain further insight.
  • Many customers buy our product because of the messaging functionality. Having the ability to send and receive messages through our platform, while having them tracked in one place is a huge advantage.

We are using Postmark to manage all transactional email messages for clients. It was selected because it offers some unique features that help us use it quickly during the development process. Also, it offers both outbound and inbound services that help us address problems related to a client's access to websites - and email is the only way to communicate with our systems.
  • Excellent deliverability
  • Ease of go-live since SMTP is also available (apart from API)
  • Inbound email handling
  • I would love to see more search capabilities
  • More improvements on the templating language
  • More permissions for users
Postmark can be used to handle all communications for all transactional messages for a website. Also, it can be used for handling incoming messages that can trigger POST requests for external services.
It is not the correct solution for handling email marketing since it does not offer reporting capabilities and other main features found in email marketing platforms.
  • High deliverability ensures that all transactional messages are delivered on time.
I have briefly used Sendgrid and it provides similar functionalities. However, I have not used it extensively to express a complete opinion.
